Counselling for Children and Young People

Helping young minds feel heard, understood, and supported.

At Lyfe Counselling, I offer a safe, compassionate space for children and young people to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, without fear of judgement or pressure.

Why Counselling Might Be Needed

Children and adolescents face all kinds of challenges as they grow, from family breakdowns and school pressures, to anxiety, low self-esteem, loss, or trauma. Some may struggle to put their feelings into words, or feel misunderstood by those around them. Counselling gives them a voice and a trusted relationship where they can begin to make sense of their world.

Counselling can support children who are experiencing:

  • Anxiety, panic, or low mood

  • Anger or emotional outbursts

  • Parental separation or family conflict

  • Bereavement or loss

  • Bullying or social isolation

  • Self-esteem and identity issues

  • Difficulties at school or in relationships

  • Past trauma or adverse childhood experiences

What the Process Looks Like

Each child is unique, so I adapt my approach to meet their individual needs. Sessions may include talking, creative activities, play-based techniques, or simply a calm space to think and reflect. I work at the child’s pace, always with sensitivity and care.

As a qualified and experienced therapist, I also work closely with parents or carers when appropriate, offering guidance on how to support their child’s emotional wellbeing at home.

Possible Outcomes

The aim of counselling isn’t just to "fix" a problem, it's about helping a child understand themselves better, feel more confident in who they are, and develop the tools they need to cope with life’s challenges.

With the right support, children can:

  • Feel more emotionally secure and less anxious

  • Build confidence and self-esteem

  • Improve communication and relationships

  • Develop healthy ways to manage emotions

  • Gain clarity and hope for the future

At Lyfe Counselling, I believe every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported. If you’re concerned about your child’s emotional wellbeing, I’m here to help.
