What Happens in Your First Counselling Session?

Starting counselling can feel like a big step, and it's natural to feel nervous or uncertain about what to expect.

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and discuss what has brought you to counselling. There is no pressure to share everything immediately, and you are free to move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

During your first session, we may explore:

  • What has led you to seek counselling
  • Your current concerns and challenges
  • What you would like to achieve from counselling
  • Any previous experiences of therapy
  • Questions you may have about the counselling process

My role is to provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly and honestly.

Many people leave their first session feeling relieved to have taken that first step and reassured that they do not have to face their difficulties alone.

Whether you choose face-to-face counselling in Derby or online counselling, the focus will always be on creating a therapeutic relationship built on trust, respect and understanding.
