Teen Counselling in Derby
Teenage years can bring a lot of change. Friendships, school, exams, family relationships, identity and social pressures can sometimes leave young people feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low or unsure of themselves.
At LYFE Counselling, I offer confidential, non-judgemental counselling for teenagers aged 13+ in Derby. Face-to-face sessions take place in Mickleover, with online counselling also available across the UK.
Counselling gives teenagers a safe space to talk about what's happening for them, without judgement or pressure. They don't have to know exactly what they need help with or have all the answers before they get in touch.
Teen counselling may help with:
• Anxiety and worry
• Low mood or depression
• Stress and feeling overwhelmed
• Low self-esteem and confidence
• Friendship difficulties
• Family relationships and conflict
• School pressures and exam stress
• Anger and emotional regulation
• Bereavement and loss
• Identity and self-discovery
Every young person is different, so I tailor my approach to their individual needs, personality and circumstances. My aim is to help teenagers feel heard and understood, develop greater self-awareness and build healthy coping strategies that can support their emotional wellbeing both now and in the future.
What Can a Teenager Expect from Counselling?
Teen counselling is a space where a young person can talk openly about what's going on for them without feeling judged or pressured to have all the answers.
Sessions are guided by the individual young person and their needs. We might talk about what's happening at home, school or with friendships, explore difficult emotions or look at patterns that may be making things harder.
I work at the teenager's pace and focus on building trust and creating a relationship where they feel comfortable being themselves. There is no expectation that they have to talk about everything straight away.
Parents and carers may have questions about how counselling works, particularly around confidentiality. I'll explain this clearly at the beginning so that the young person understands what they can expect and what information may need to be shared to keep them safe.
If you're a parent or carer considering counselling for a teenager, you don't need to know exactly what support they need before getting in touch. We can have a conversation about what's happening and whether counselling with LYFE feels appropriate.
